Domino’s Pizza began in 1960 when Tom and James Monaghan purchase Dominick’, a small pizza store in Ypsilanti. Michigan. One year later, James traded his share in the pizzeria to Tom for a VW Beetle.
The sole owner adopted the name Domino’s Pizza in 1965 and set the goal to make the company the best pizza delivery company in the world with a guarantee 3-minute delivery time. In 2011 it had a 94 percent on time delivery performance. It is recognized world leader in pizza delivery; operating a network of company-owned and franchise-owned stores in the United States and international markets.
Like most corporate success stories, Domino’s started out small - with just one store in 1960. However, in 1978, the 200th Domino’s store opened and things really began to cook. By 1983, there were 1000 Domino’s stores and 5000 in 1989.
In 1983 Domino’s Pizza opened its first international store in Canada. In 1996, the company had over 1500 international stores on all five continents’.
